Chapter 36 A night of revelation

We hugged for ages and then mum lifted my chin to ask if I was OK. Somehow it wasn’t a shock to me but it was to Julie who was crying. This was very unusual for Julie.

I woke up and wondered where I was. I looked around and it dawned on me. I was in a crib, wearing a diaper and girls Care Bear nightie. And I needed to use the bathroom, desperately. I listened and wondered what had woken me. I heard a door shut and realized that Sarah had gotten back. "Sarah," I called out.

"Just a moment," came drifting back, and then a knock at the door.

I heard the door open and a loud voice, "I heard you wanted to talk to me about my dog, Thor."

Chapter 35 Truth comes out

As our main course was being served mum said that we should have a talk when we got home and I said OK since such a talk was long overdue. She responded by saying that the tragedy had a big impact on our family life and our father had eventually had to give in and leave home.

It’s a saying a parable of sorts from the old days. It used to be you’d be dead and gone and your great grand kids would be the ones arriving to where you used to be heading. Then came the great invention of FTL space flight. The basic theory of it requires the ship involved to have a man made micro-singularity as the engine core. It creates its own gravity and when you jump it’s using a particle beam to link it to another gravity well or a star and your ship is attracted to the larger field.
