First a few words, I did not write the first version of this story, this is merely an unauthorized rewrite of the original. JR wrote the original version and the basic idea’s, plot, and setting belongs to JR, not me. I took the liberty to make any changes I saw fit to make this story more to my liking. I changed the names of those involved but the plot remains basically unchanged. Any and all continuations are my work but based upon the work of JR, not mine. So without further adieu I give you “The Vampiress: 12,000 Words”!

Cindy is safe and back with her friends and family. What did Maddy do to save the day? Where has The Wizard been? What will become of Evan Sheisskopf?

Cindy, Bobbie and their mothers are doing some pre-school shopping for essentials. Bobby, especially, is very conscious about how nice she looks, and wants to get a swim suit for her final trip to the beach before school starts. Bobbie’s mother is pleasantly surprised, and at the same time a bit disturbed, about how strikingly beautiful her daughter has become. Evan Sheisskopf is lurking in the parking lot.

Bobbie Schmedlap, Cindy’s best friend, is quick to diagnose Cindy’s problem. As we have seen before, Bobbie can detect physical problems in some people, and she quickly diagnoses Cindy’s ‘problem’. She is happy for her friend, but Cindy is not happy at all about the pending event. She is having serious doubts about her role, and the nightmare of the night before was an expression of that doubt. Now is the time for her mother to be there. Bobbie and Maddy help, too.

Sibling rivalry is a powerful thing. Sixteen years of his twin sister receiving obviously superior presents sends a boy into an unusual battle of wills with his father. How far is he willing to go to prove a point? (This one runs a little longer than the challenge guidelines wanted.)

“It wasn’t my fault. I wasn’t being punished for being bad. I … I was just stuck … stuck inside … but not no more. Maybe it was God’s fault … and maybe it wasn’t but it don’t matter no more. Now I’m outside and I’m whole … and I’m a real girl and not a lost one. I’m not sad and I don’t live on TG Misfit Island anymore!”

“The only thing special for me about this birthday is the fact I’m spending it with the two of you. I don’t feel like celebrating fifty years of life that was mostly a lie and barely more than existence, but if I can use this day to wheedle permission out of you to try and reach for the stars … then I’ll use it. Look … I’ve got all the ingredients for the recipe. I need an ounce of faith … I’ve got an ocean. I need an ounce of magic … being home with the two of you on my birthday gives me that and then some … so … all I need now is your permission to try.”

I wrote this a long time ago. It is a fairy tale dressed in reality.

1. College Interns

Three hours into the flight, Kelly turned to Jody and asked, “Have you ever been to California before?”

“No, I haven’t,” Jody replied looking out the window. “I’ve always wanted to go but I’ve never had the chance. Outside of taking the train up and down the East coast, I’ve never really been anywhere west of Pittsburgh.”

A house can be many things. It can be shelter from the elements, a place to hang your hat and coat after work, a haven from the madly rushing world in general, a home filled with warmth, comfort and the sounds of friends and loved ones.

But sometimes, a house goes bad.
